OUR HISTORY
Hypnotic Neurotic Toys (HNT) is an independent journalism and editorial collective based in Hamburg, Germany. Founded in 2011, HNT operates as a collaborative network of writers, editors, photographers, designers and visual artists, with an average of seven active members contributing to the project at any given time.
Rather than functioning as a traditional newsroom, HNT embraces a fluid collective structure. Contributors change over time, bringing different perspectives, disciplines and experiences while remaining united by a shared editorial philosophy: independent journalism, intellectual curiosity and cultural criticism.
At the heart of the collective is HNT Magazine—a digital publication exploring the intersections of society, politics, technology, philosophy, culture and artificial intelligence. Its essays, interviews, long-form features and visual stories challenge dominant narratives, question established power structures and encourage readers to think beyond conventional media perspectives.
HNT Magazine deliberately combines investigative journalism with literary writing and visual storytelling. Rather than chasing headlines, the editorial team focuses on context, analysis and the long-term cultural impact of political, technological and social change. Artificial intelligence, digital ethics, freedom of expression, counterculture and contemporary philosophy are recurring themes throughout the publication.
The collective believes journalism should do more than report events—it should provoke discussion, encourage critical thinking and create space for ideas that are often overlooked by mainstream media.
